Today I helped a young guy begin the process of breaking up with a girlfriend. I am trying to undo all the crazy talk that is out there about women (ahem...sorry I meant females) and "what we can handle".
At the end of session he says essentially:
I never had a dad and my mom died when I was young. So I don't know how to deal with women. Nobody teaches you this stuff in school and my boys wouldn't have given me that advice. Can I come back this week so I can write this stuff down?
It was a great session and we are gonna get him good, strong and happy. And I'm determined to work on changing the way young men and women interact with and think of each other.
Damn I love my job!
One therapist at a time, one session at a time we can change the world.
